Part II: 38 million for East Orange County traffic … Research Park?

We all know the traffic woes in East Orange County and now Orange County is faced with yet another problem.  Research Park’s roads are private and the tenants don’t want pass through traffic so Research Park is toying with the idea of either gating or tolling their roads which would stop pass-through traffic in Research Park.  But, this would dramatically increase traffic on Tanner, McCulloch and Alafaya Trail.  In response to this the mayor has asked the assistant county administrator, Mr. Harrison, to look at the problem and see if there are any solutions.  This area was never designed to accommodate UCF’s growth to 65,000 students and 10,000 employees at UCF and Research Park.  As you will hear the prediction was 53,000 total, not 75,000 which is where we are now with more to come.

The video is a little long and I rant a bit but if you want to know what is going on and the challenges Orange County faces, it is 11 minutes well spent.

On February 6th, there was a discussion regarding the roads within Central Florida Research Park.  I showed a small portion of this in the video above so if you want to watch the entire discussion, follow these instructions:

  • Click this link http://netapps.ocfl.net/Mod/meetings/1
  • Under 2018 Meetings on the left, select “February 6th”
  • On the right side, scroll down and click on “Roads Within Central Florida Research Park”

What does our commissioner mean when she says, “things are going on in the background”?

This public comment is in front of the Orange County Board of County Commissioners regarding 38 million in INVEST dollars that is supposed to be used for infrastructure enhancement to East Orange County. Commissioner Bonilla said in March, 2017 there are things going on in the background that people don’t know about when asked about the traffic problems in East Orange County. She said almost exactly the same phrase in 2018.

What is going on in the background?

Stay tuned for Part II of this story.
