SR 408 Extension PD&E Study Group Meeting

On Tuesday, Jan 10th, I attended the SR 408 Extension PD&E Study Group Meeting.  The purpose of the meeting was to look at alternative routes for the 408 expressway.  Why look at alternative routes as we have a promise from FDOT that they would look at running the extension along SR 50?  People that understand the area all agree this route is the best for everyone so it seems odd that the study group would meet to examine other routes.

The explanation is that FDOT only has funding for the PD&E study of the extension and there is no guarantee that they will decide to build the road and if they do when will funding be available.  CFX knows the road is needed, has the money and is willing to move forward but are not allowed to use the SR 50 corridor.

FDOT is calling their PD&E study, the Colonial Parkway PD&E so if FDOT builds the road will it will be called “Colonial Parkway”?

Here are pictures from the handouts at the meeting.  As you can see the alternative routes shown go all the way up into the Lake Pickett area as well as through Avalon.  Review these routes and come to the Feb 16th meeting ready to provide your opinion.

None of these routes work as well as SR 50 however the work group did look at each and if there was to be a  choice the general consensus of the group was route 4 or a combination of 4 and 2 worked the best.

There were environmental concerns such as crossing the econ, flood plains and storm water harvesting.

Feb 16th is an important meeting.  I hope to see you there.
