On March 8th, CFX had an information only update on the 408 extension. The board had very few questions. The next step is a public hearing on April 26th at 5:30 pm at East River High School. The public will be given the opportunity to view the recommended alternative and comment on the two options the study offers, the build option and the no build option. When the process is complete, on May 10th there will be a request of the board to adopt the findings.
Here is a summary of that update and you can view the meeting video at this url: http://netapps.ocfl.net/Mod/meetings/6
The project area study is shown below.
The purpose and need is to provie regional mobility in the east-west direction to mitigate forecasted dificiencies on the local arterial highways, provide additional evacuation service, transportation connectivity induced by continued population growth and support future transit options.
This project has been ongoing since 2006 and is fully document in previous blogs.
In 2015, the route ran alongside Hwy 50 but due to challenges from FDOT who own Hwy 50, other routes were explored.
In 2017, FDOT’s Florida Turnpike initiated the Colonial Parkway PD&E Study along the Hwy 50 corridor while CFX studied the alternative routes. 5 corridors were studied as shown below.
The recommended alternative is shown below.
The board had very few questions so we will wait to see what happens on April 26th.
